Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Lucentis For the first time, people with wet AMD can improve their vision with Lucentis. About 95% of the patients who used Lucentis noticed their eyesight stayed stable and about 40% noticed improvement. Also, the FDA has approved the use of Lucentis, since it showed positive results in the treatment of wet AMD. Lucentis is a drug that stops abnormal new blood vessel formation on the retina caused by wet AMD. As with any injection into the eye, there is a risk of infection. There is also the possibility that the intraocular pressure would increase within one hour after the injection. Dr. Kenneth Darvin has been doing Lucentis injections since the drug was approved in June 2006 with great results. End results vary depending on the patient. Some patients need only one injection, others need several to stabilize their condition, but there are also a number of patients who have to get Lucentis injections every indefinitely to keep their eyesight.
